The road north from Nakuru (the B4) is tarmac
and in good condition all the way. The worst part of the journey on tarmac
from Nairobi is the section between Naivasha and Nakuru which is in a very
poor state of repair. If you have an extra hour and a decent car, consider
going "The Pyramid Road" from
Nyahururu, which will avoid some of the bad road into Nakuru.
In May 2003 two stretches of the tarmac road linking Marigat and Kampi ya Samaki were washed away in the exceptionally heavy rains. These were impassable except for 4 wheel drive for a period until the water subsided. As of now, ie early 2005, they are fine.
