The "Trans-Rift Trail" is a trekking route across Kenya's Rift Valley region which echoes some of the old migratory routes of the Tugen peoples.
It is also the route that Africa’s great explorers used as they searched for the source of the Nile including James Hannington, Joseph Thompson, and Count Teleki von Szek.
It is a new tourism product developed principally by the efforts of William Kimesop, Game Warden of Lake Bogoria National Reserve. Some more information about the trail may be gleaned from the websites Wildlife Direct and the Kenya Land Conservation Trust.
As the product is in active development we would particularly welcome feedback and experience gained at our open Forum website. The trek may be undertaken in sections but it is not clear to what extent organized guides are essential or not. It is probably true to say that some experience of trekking is desirable for those wishing to attempt it.
The itinerary detailed below would require to be booked through the Equator Tourism Information Centre and interested parties should contact Betty Kibet at 0721 294341 or Kimesop at email@example.com
