The Birding club of Lake Baringo was founded by the director of Bird Watching express in 2006. It was meant to bring together serious bird guides, to be incorporated in the company’s activities such as guiding away from Lake Baringo. The Club is well featured in various birding websites (www.birdingpal.org, www.fatbirder.com among many others). Bird watching express has been conducting tours within and away from Lake Baringo with help of guides like Wilson, and hopes to do so with the launch of its website www.birdwatchingexpress.com.

The area around Lake Baringo is unique because it combines the lake shore with high cliffs just a stone throw away. These conditions explain an extraordinary diversity of more than 400 bird species in a relatively small area… Your guide can not only show you giant and minuscule types of owls, but also rare, hard-to-find thick-knees, nightjars, sand grouses, coursers plus others.

Also, one has to experience this bird watching while watching out for hippos, avoiding to step on, for example, a still lying crocodile that sets eyes on a majestic goliath heron. Yet, as the area is not a national park, the odd zebras often find themselves in company of goats and cattle.

All birds are available

In Kenya no birding safari goes without a visit to Baringo

The Birding Club of Lake Baringo organizes short and longer birding safaris to anyone’s taste. Packages can be ‘tailor made’.
