From Baringo to Samburu along the North Road

A saloon carefully driven if the weather is dry, otherwise a 4 wheel drive vehicle
This is a terrific drive and can be completed in about 7 hours. There is very little traffic, you may see elephants and giraffe between the Mugi turnoff and the Maralal turnoff and the scenery is superb. The impeccably dressed Samburu warriors encountered on the road are also a magnificent sight. The map reprinted above is quite accurate.

Alternative Route to West Gate of Samburu Park:

At Womba turn off, keep going straight direction Archer’s Post for about 10 ks until you come to a village called LANGUSAKA. About 1 k after village there is adrift (Langusaka River). After the drift turn right direction WESTGATE GROUP RANCH. About 40 ks after you come to the park gate. (If you are staying at Lion King Camp or Nahim’s Camp, drive along the river for18 ks. The camp is near the bridge, and there is a “Save The Elephants” sign nearby.

Go to Loruk about 12 ks north of Kampi ya Samaki, and take a right turn along a gravel road towards the Police Post. Follow the road west through Tangulbei until you meet a T junction – right to Rumuruti or left to Maralal. Take the left and go in a northwesterly direction for a good 50 ks until you meet the C78 at another T junction. At this point go right in the direction of Womba. After traveling about 110 ks, you pass the Womba turn-off and go straight one towards Archer’s Post. This road after about 50-60 ks meets the A2 about 30 ks north of Archers Post. Turn right here.
